What is an RFID gateway? An RFID gateway is a centralized device or system used to monitor and manage the movement of RFID-tagged items, especially in high-traffic or transitional areas such as doorways, loading docks, or warehouse zones. It typically includes multiple RFID readers and antennas positioned to detect tags passing through specific checkpoints. These gateways collect real-time data as goods move, helping track their exact location, direction, and movement history. RFID gateways are commonly used in portal applications, where they automatically log each tagged item entering or exiting a space. This improves visibility, enhances inventory accuracy, and supports automation in supply chain management. By integrating with backend systems, RFID gateways help businesses make timely decisions and maintain control over assets.
